A half-day symposium bringing scholars and practitioners together to reflect on what is needed, possible, and ought to be done for the future of social research in the Middle East amid ongoing war and displacement.
Hack 20-22 May 2025 — Hackathon in Berlin.
Building on the Liverpool–IOM work using digital data to track displacement in conflict settings, the Berlin Hackathon explored how the same approaches can be applied to climate-induced natural hazards. Participants combined Meta’s Facebook Movement and Population During Crisis data with IOM displacement records to prototype more timely, spatially detailed tracking for rapid humanitarian response.
Talk 25 March 2026 — Report launch: Dynamic Estimates of Displacement in Disaster Regions, at Workshop 2: Engaging Government Stakeholders for Practical Insights.
The launch of our report on triangulating IOM survey estimates, GPS phone data, and social media data to refine displacement estimates, with Ukraine as the case study. Delivered as part of a policy workshop series developed in partnership with the International Organization for Migration.

A short film on the medium-term assessment of vulnerabilities in Mar Mikhael, six months after the Beirut Blast — based on a survey of over 400 households comparing pre-crisis (2018) and post-explosion conditions. In collaboration with CatalyticAction and the AUB Beirut Urban Lab.
